Summer Related Email Campaigns

Summer 2020 in Northern Hemisphere began on Saturday, June 20 and ends on Tuesday, September 22.

Over the next few weeks (as well as over the past few weeks), we’ll be pushing Summer Related Emails. I pulled some relevant examples (below) from brands that I recently received emails from.

I note this in each section below but for each example, the brand featured doesn’t offer a discount. I didn’t intentionally pull email examples where no discount were present. These happened to be the first three emails I found when I did a quick search in my inbox for summer related content.

My personal take on discounts is that they’re okay. We take a hybrid approach where a lot of other brands are either all for or against discounts. We like to mix in a few discounts when relevant without having every single email include a discount.

Make sure to base whether or not to include a discount in your Summer emails (or other emails) based on your company’s own philosophy. Don’t decide to use a discount or not because of the examples below.

One other note: All the emails were sent prior to summer officially kicking off. So some of the content may change slightly depending on when you read this piece.

Let’s get started with our first example.

Tracksmith does a nice job promoting a pair of their shorts. This email was sent prior (sent on 6/16) to Summer officially starting to help get their subscribers prepared for the new season.

The email itself is super simple and clean. They don’t push any discounts in this email. It’s super straightforward which I like. This is a good email to model if you want to push a single product without a discount.

Note: The header image is actually a GIF which I included right below this email example.

This next Summer email example is from Draper James.

They do a great job highlighting a specific product through their strong product and lifestyle photography. The accompanied text within the email plays nicely and compliments the imagery well.

I love that they’re promoting 4th of July through the collections graphic/CTA near the bottom of the email.

The AfterPay callout is another nice touch. This is helpful for consumers to be able to get items they want but not have to pay for it all upfront.

And again, they aren’t pushing any discounts which I know some brands prefer to not ever or seldom discount their products.

This next (and last) Summer email we’re focused on is from Birdies.

I really like this email. The colors, fonts, and overall layout are on-point.

Again, they do a great job highlighting a new product without pushing any discounts. There’s a good mix of product and lifestyle photography that help potential customers envision the product fitting in as a part of their own routine.
