The new best offer for freelance copywriters:
Dear Chase,
There are a lot of things I love about copywriting, but the thing I love most is how durable it’s been over the last few years.
The industry really does look about the same as it did when I started in 2020.
There’s still an insane demand for copywriters, and it’s becoming more and more common for people to hit some crazy numbers with it.
10, 15, 20, 30 thousand a month for some of these people.
One of my best students right now is a 20-year-old kid who’s at around $40k a month with his freelancing business, which is almost turning into an agency.
The thing that he’s doing really well with right now is offering short-form scripts to his clients.
Every business in the world wants more traffic. More eyeballs.
They already know that one of the best ways to do that is with organic social. TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.
Most businesses are honestly clueless about how to do that, though.
They’re not copywriters, therefore they don’t know how to get someone’s attention, hold it, and then convert it into the next step.
The student who’s at $40k a month has been writing short-form scripts for clients since about September, and since then, he’s become one of the best in the game at it.
Scripts are not difficult.
It only takes a few reps at it to understand what works and why.
The idea is that if you can get a client a few hundred thousand views, that’s worth the equivalent of $2-3k in ad spend.
Logically, you can charge a pretty sizable amount of money for this service.
If you’re a copywriter and you wanna do this, you wanna offer 30 reels a month. One per day.
About half of them will be TOF, just trying to get attention.
The other half should be MOF, directing that attention to some sort of CTA.
If your client has ManyChat set up, they can make people comment a certain word, and then automatically start a DM conversation with them, and set them onto a closer’s calendar for a high ticket offer.
Any decent offer should be able to get 10-20 calls booked per week with this strategy, meaning you can probably close 5-10 of them.
Most offers cost about $3k. The client SHOULD be making between $15-30k a week just from your scripts.
That’s really not that crazy if you’re a good script writer.
So what can you charge?
$5k + 5% of revenue from Instagram is more than fair.
You can partner with an editor, pay them $20 a reel, and end up profiting potentially $8-10k a month per client.
Not sure if this sounds crazy to you, Chase, but it’s being done already.
It’s a very cool offer.
Something your audience should look into.
Yours truly,
Alex.
